When Melou brings Angela back into the castle it's around about when dinner would normally be served. However, it's a festival day, so the household has already eaten, in order to be able to head outside for the evening's games.
He pulls her into his room, obviously excited, and starts rummaging through a trunk.
"Get you your mask in just a minute."

Date: 2006-10-28 03:17 am (UTC)"Yep! We jump through a fire, not the big bonfire, as a sort of penance for our misdeeds." He shrugs. "Generally, though, it's just fun."

Date: 2006-10-28 03:18 am (UTC)Angela isn't as clumsy as she once was, but she doesn't trust herself to clear a fire.

Date: 2006-10-28 03:38 am (UTC)It's slightly softer than she would have thought.

Date: 2006-10-28 03:53 am (UTC)Once outside, he leads her down to the training field, where the main bonfire has already been lit. There are barrels of ale and of apples and some of the older crowd have started to settle into groups and enjoy the fire's warmth.
The younger and more adventurous folk are all heading further down the field, toward the village, which is where Melou directs Angela.
"Maze is that way."

Date: 2006-10-28 04:01 am (UTC)"It's going to be hard to get through--it's dark."
She's not that worried. Really.

Date: 2006-10-28 04:14 am (UTC)The village itself is all but deserted and the continue to follow the crowd to a farmer's field, in which a large maze has been cut into the corn stalks. There are smaller fires lit in various places, making it bright enough to see. Of course, once inside the maze it's whole different story.

Date: 2006-10-29 01:01 am (UTC)Once inside the maze, there's not much except starlight and whatever moonlight there is to light their path. She looks around to figure out which way is best, but figures that there's no good way of telling.

Date: 2006-10-29 01:16 am (UTC)He is, however, just as lost as she is, as a new maze is cut every year so there's no chance of remembering the path from year to year. Still, he keeps a good grip on her hand because while he has no problem getting lost inside himself, he'll be damned if he's letting them get separated in the process.
"Point is to make it to the centre and pick up our flag to prove we did it. Then find our way out again."

Date: 2006-10-29 01:22 am (UTC)"That way, maybe?" She points to their right.

Date: 2006-10-29 01:40 am (UTC)They weave their way down the path and around a few more turns before hitting a dead end, which makes Melou frown.
"Back out and tot he left, I think."
no subject
Date: 2006-10-29 01:44 am (UTC)But then there's another dead end.
"Maybe we should have taken that last turn as right?"
Angela's never really done this before. It's a little disorienting, but fun.

Date: 2006-10-29 01:56 am (UTC)He takes her back out that way and after a few more turns, they start passing people going in the opposite direction, carrying little white pieces of cloth.
"Must be getting close."

Date: 2006-10-29 02:04 am (UTC)It's rather nice doing this sort of thing with him. Now that she's more used to the cold, she's enjoying the clear night and holding his hand, trying to find their way through spooky-looking cornstalks.

Date: 2006-10-30 01:29 am (UTC)"Now, to find our way back out again." There's the trick.
no subject
Date: 2006-10-30 01:35 am (UTC)Melou actually has a rather good memory, so getting out is easier than it was finding their way through the first time.
The walk back to the bonfire is slower, some of the excitement having settled in him, but he's still smiling, arm wrapped around her waist.

Date: 2006-10-30 01:40 am (UTC)The fact that she's here hits her hard at the moment, and she's very quiet. She leans her head against his shoulder, looking around, rather fascinated.
She looks over at him. He looks happy. She'd like to keep him that way.
