Melou is angry.

This anger is being taken out on a poor, defenseless tree with his sword. If he keeps it up much longer, he may end up felling it.

No, Melehan, it's not your reading tree. Don't worry. He's not that angry.

Good. Because otherwise Melehan would punch him. Still, the boy is looking confused.

"Melou?"

"What." It's not really a question, more an aknowledgement that his name was called. He also kicks the tree for good measure.

He sighs.

"What's wrong, brother?" He asks, switching from Latin to 'twin'. They are both generally more honest in their own, private language.

"I met the man who's not our father." Melou glowers at the tree for still standing. "Thinks he's better than Father was."

"Lots of people do - and Father always argued with them."

He looks at his brother.

"He said Father didn't care about us."

Instant frown.

"Well, he's wrong."

"I know that. He was just so smug about it. Bastard."

"So, we avoid him."

[dragon_twin]

"It's not always that easy, Mele." He jams one of his knives into the tree trunk angrily.

"I wanted to hit him and not stop."

"...I know."

Finally, he's exhausted and sags against the tree.

"I hate him."

Melehan looks a little confused - it's hard to get emotional about an abstract.

Melou makes a face at his brother and changes the subject. Sort of.

"I met Mama, too."

"How did that go?"

[dragon_twin]

He shrugs. "It was weird. She's Mama, but not, you know?"

Melehan nods.

"She's not Mama yet."

[dragon_twin]

"Yeah. She looked, I don't know. Not just younger but," he shrugs again, "less stressed I guess."

He shifts.

"Well, she would be, wouldn't she?"

"I guess." He glances over. "Did you see her?"

"Aye."

[dragon_twin]

"And?"

"She's not Mama yet, but she's still Mama."

[dragon_twin]

Melou nods and fingers the damage he did to the tree.

"Think I'll get in trouble?"

Melehan considers it.

"Possibly?"

[dragon_twin]

"Great." He sighs.

And then he makes a startling discovery. "You don't have a book."

"Well, no."

[dragon_twin]

"Why not?" He's trying not to be shocked. Really.

"I wanted to see if you wanted to spar with me." He says, blandly.

"Ah, you want to be humiliated. I think I can accomodate that." He grins, anger gone for the moment.

Cheerfully,

"Yeah, whatever. After you?"

"All right." He picks up his sword from wherever he dropped it and stands ready.

Melehan draws his smoothly out from the sheath, watches Melou for a moment, and then launches an attack to his brother's right arm.

He easily blocks and sidesteps the attack, then aims for his brother's left side.

He blocks his brother's blow, and uses the force to bounce up and over and towards his head.

Another block and he spins around, not quite as gracefully as he will after a few more years of practice, and makes for Melehan's legs.

He doesn't both to block, just skips backwards.

Melou grins at him briefly, then lunges forward.

He side-steps at the last moment, spinning around to crashing his shoulder agaist Melou's. Not against the rules, this is before codes of chivalry and fighting.

He stumbles back, momentarily caught off balance and then drives his shoulder into Melehan's chest.

"Oof!" That sends the boy back onto the ground, but he still has his sword.

"Yield?" Melou knows the answer. He's just asking to rile his brother up.

"Get stuffed."

Melou smiles and leans in to attempt to place the point of his sword by Melehan's neck to signify victory.
