It's a special day. At least, Melou assumes it's supposed to be though there isn't much in the way of celebration happening. Not that he really minds the lack of attention for once.

On the other hand, it's a day that's not just about him. Which is why he's grabbed two glasses of ale and is currently knocking on his brother's door.

Melou glares at his brother over his shoulder. "I gave Bri the ring. A book's just a book."

He stops, stock still.

"It is not!"

He stops as well, shoulders sagging. "Fine, I know it's not to you, but to me it is. It was just something I knew she'd like."

A long pause.

"Forgiven, as long as you buy a new one."

"Do what now?"

"Buy a new one."

"Why would I do that?" He asks, looking at his brother like he's insane. "It's not like the monks don't have anything better to do than make a new one."

He sighs.

"But it's a book."

"Indeed it is. Besides, I'm not even sure exactly which one it was." Melou starts up again and heads to the ale barrels.

"Clearly, I need to go and talk to her, then."

He grins and hands his brother another mug. "If you want. Her Latin might even be good enough to make some of it out by now."

"Might." He says.

And drinks.

"She'd probably like it. She likes you." Melou takes a mug for himself. "You could also meet the cat. They're bound, or were last I talked to her."

"Ah, yes. The Cat."

He takes a sip, thoughtfully.

"Probably should've waited and got her that for her birthday."

"Yep. And then you wouldn't have had to steal the book."

"Bah. Bet they thought it was you, anyway." The thought of which makes him grin.

"...oh, fuck."

"And if they do, you tell them it was me. Or tell them to go fuck themselves. Whichever works."
